Nearing the end
I have only a week or so left in Korea, and the temperature has dropped sharply. There are now smatterings of snow on the Mt Gwanak, behind the university.
Last weekend, we had our end-of-year party. We began with a long dinner in an upmarket restaurant serving traditional Korean food, of the sort that would have been served to the upper classes. In stark contrast to the usual Korean dinner, this was a leisurely affair, with many dishes being brought in a continuous stream. It took over two hours, and was very delicious. I have no pictures of that.
I do have pictures of the place that we visited at the end of the night. It was extremely cold outside, and we were very glad to get into this place, where we had hot sake (much better warm!) and steaming fish soup. As you can see, we also had some things on sticks.
Later on, we moved upstairs to a 'snug', as it would be called in a British pub. This had heated floors, and sent most of us to sleep pretty quickly. That, the sake and a lecture on the benefits of reading 10 papers a week (like that's going to happen!). Here we are, awake and sprightly! This is the whole group, minus the secretary, who had to leave earlier.
